Reflection for Technical Communication
Dear Professor Brad,
This is your student Chuang Yuan from TLM, I am writing this letter to share with you what I have learnt from TLM 1010 Technical Communication.
This module exposed me to things that were never taught to me in junior college(JC). Before studying this module, I thought that I knew how to write a report because I had experiences with project work in JC. However, little did I know that there are so many rules, format and techniques to follow in a report, such as the need to have ’abstract’, ‘table of content’ and ‘letter of transmittal’. Another important thing that I have learnt is how to properly cite a source in APA format, which is definitely going to be useful when I enter the workforce in the near future. Moreover, the activity that most resonated with me was the oral presentation, I am very grateful that our group was given the chance to present in front of the TLM cohort.
In the very first formal letter I sent you, I said that my weakness in communication is that I have very bad stage fright. Thanks to the oral presentations, I am proud to say that my stage fright has got much better. As an audience, I observed how other groups carried out their presentation and learnt from them. As a presenter, I applied what I learnt from my peers into my own presentation. For example, I realised that Roy has very natural hand gestures when he presents, so I learnt from him and used some of the hand gestures during my presentation.
Thank you Prof for all your constructive feedback and support, I enjoyed this module a lot and I hope to learn from you more in the future!
Sincerely,
Liu Chuang Yuan
Dear Chuang Yuan,
回复删除Thank you for this fluent and detailed reflection. I appreciate your mentioning that in the initial letter you expressed a concern for having stage fright while presenting, and that you feel through the module, you improved your presentation skills.
In this post you also mention not previously being familiar with so many genres of writing. Your fine work on the various assignments has been testament to the hard work you did!
In general, I feel you made an excellent effort this term. I especially appreciate your contributions to our classroom discussions. All the best as you continue your learning journey!
Brad
